Ideological Techniques and Operational Procedures: Analyzing the Tactics of Propaganda and Disinformation

The goal of this project was to reveal mechanisms used to sow disinformation and propaganda and thereby induce disruption in the societies of Lativa, Sweden and the United Kingdom. We focused on two complementary aspects of influence activity: ideological techniques and operational procedures. To address the former, we used framing analysis and narrative analysis, primarily of news data. To address the latter, we adapted our method of rapidly revealing suspicious social media accounts; we also experimented with novel methods of combining insights from the ideological analysis with social media analysis to further reveal characteristics of disinformation and propaganda flows online.
