Ukraine is at a turning point. It has now been over 20 years since Ukraine became a fully independent state; now it faces huge choices and opportunities. The discovery of what could be vast amounts of natural gas; its geo-political relationships; and, its recent move to deepen relations with the EU – are all are coming to a head.
Sergii Bondarchuck will discuss these issues and many more, giving a uniquire insight into what is happening on the ground in Ukraine, and what the future will hold for US-Ukraininan relations.
Mr. Bondarchuk is a Ukrainian civic leader, farmer and businessman. He represents a new generation of Ukrainian leaders who are committed to good governance, European values and national development.

Mr. Bondarchuk is a Ukrainian civic leader, farmer and businessman. He represents a new generation of Ukrainian leaders who are committed to good governance, European values and national development. Mr. Bondarchuk is creating pro-Western initiatives in Ukraine, including a substantive roundtable discussion assembling representatives of Ukraine’s government and its opposition to address the country’s anticipated associate membership in the European Union.
Mr. Bondarchuk was elected to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) in 2002 where he served as an independent Member of Parliament for three years. During this time, he actively participated in the Orange Revolution, representing Presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko as a campaign proxy in Volyn Oblast (region/state) in Western Ukraine. Upon Yushchenko’s election, Mr. Bondarchuk was appointed by the new President as Director General of Ukrspetexport, the Ukrainian military export/import company. During his five-year tenure, a significant period of time in a high-profile state position in Ukraine, he distinguished himself by doubling revenues, eliminating corruption and supporting the Republic of Georgia during that country’s conflict with Russia in August 2008. As a result, Russia designated him persona non grata because of his work as the Head of Ukrspetexport.
Mr. Bondarchuk graduated from the Kyiv Frunze Higher All-Army College with a specialty in military intelligence in 1993. He served as an officer in the Anti-Corruption Department in the State Security Service (SBU) for two years and entered the business world in 1995 where he was an owner and manager of companies in the energy, heavy machinery and military industries. Mr. Bondarchuk was awarded the prestigious Hero of Ukraine Medal in February 2010 for his service to the country. He earned a graduate degree in finance from the elite Taras Schevchenko University in 2004.
