Lieutenant General Norman Seip, USAF (Ret), a Consensus for American Security member, witnessed firsthand the vulnerability that dependence on fossil fuels exposes the U.S. military to over the course of his career.  Since retiring, General Seip has become a forceful voice in moving the Department of Defense away from using fossil fuels as their primary source of energy.  He believes that the military can help perfect a variety of alternative energy technologies by partnering with the private sector, much like it did with the development of the internet, GPS and microprocessors.  He recently expressed these views as an Expert Voice at Livescience.com.
