Popular Mechanics posted a video that tells the story of the National Ignition Facility (NIF), a lab that is developing fusion energy using lasers. NIF holds the largest laser in the world at its headquarters in the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Called inertial confinement fusion (ICF), NIF uses lasers to heat a small pellet of hydrogen fuel to create fusion. The goal will be to create a self-sustaining fusion reaction for commercial energy.
