Defense Secretary, and ASP founding board member, Chuck Hagel will discuss the Department of Defense’s new Arctic strategy at the Halifax International Security Forum later today.  President Obama first revealed the US Arctic strategy in May, focusing on the changing environment in the region.  As the Arctic melts due to climate change, new sea passages will begin to open.  Furthermore, countries will have to ability to tap previously inaccessible reserves of oil and gas contained in the Arctic.  Secretary Hagel will also discuss how climate change affects security issues across the globe.
